The chemical composition of mineral Clinotyrolite is indicated by the formula Ca2Cu9[(As,S)O4]4(OH)10•10(H2O). This mineral Clinotyrolite is usually found forming in the oxidized zone of a copper deposit. Clinotyrolite is usually found occuring from its type of locality at Dongchuan copper mine, Yunnan Province, China. This mineral was named for the monoclinic symmetry and relationship to tyrolite. Mineral Clinotyrolite is known to crystallize in the monoclinic system of crystal formation. In optical mineralogy, the monoclinic system of crystal formation comprises crystals having three axes of unequal lengths. Two of which are usually found in a position that is oblique or not perpendicular to one another. However, both of which are commonly found perpendicular to the third axis. This mineral is usually found colored emerald green in hand sample. The density measure of mineral Clinotyrolite is usually found 3.22 grams per cubic centimeters. Most crystals of mineral Clinotyrolite are usually found semitransparent. The crystal habit of mineral Clinotyrolite as described in the field of optical mineralogy usually includes foliated structures with two dimensional platy forms. Mineral Clinotyrolite is also found radial where crystals radiate from a center without producing stellar forms like stibnite. Mineral Clinotyrolite is also found showing silky to pearly luster when evaluated in reflected light of polarizing microscopes. Mineral Clinotyrolite is also found leaving light green streak when rubbed on white porcelain streak plate. Clinotyrolite is also found showing biaxial negative figure with birefringence of 0.0280 which is more visible when evaluated between crossed nicols of polarized microscopes. Mineral Clinotyrolite is also found not radioactive.
