The chemical formula of mineral Chatkalite is inidcated by Cu6Fe++Sn2S8. Mineral Chatkalite is usually found as rounded disseminations in tetrahedite, from a sulfide-bearing quartz vein. Chatkalite comes from an unspecified locality in the Chatkalo-Kuramin Mountains, eastern Uzbekistan, USSR. This mineral was named for the occurrence in the Chatkalo-Kuramin Mountains, USSR. Mineral Chatkalite is known to crystallize in the tetragonal system of crystal formation. In optical mineralogy, this tetragonal system comprises crystals having three axes, which are all in a position perpendicular to one another. Two axes are usually found having the same or equal length. Chatkalite is commonly found colored rose, brown or orange in hand sample. The density measure of mineral Chatkalite is usually found 5 grams per cubic centimeters. Most crystals of mineral Chatkalite are found opaque in appearance. The hardness measure of mineral Chatkalite is usually found 4.5 when evaluated using the Mohs scale method. Chatkalite is also commonly found showing metallic luster when viewed in reflected light of polarizing microscopes for mineralogists. Mineral Chatkalite is also found showing weak Anisotrophism in shades of brown. The interference color exhibited by mineral Chatkalite isusually found in shade of pale rose. Mineral Chatkalite is found to be not radioactive.
