The chemical formula of mineral Brownleeite is indicated by MnSi. This mineral is a known member of Fersilicite group. Mineral Brownleeite is also known as an interplanetary dust particle collected from the stratosphere over south-western USA, probably from Comet 26P/Grigg-Skjellerup. Brownleeite was named after Donald E. Brownlee, professor of astronomy at the University of Washington, Seattle. Mineral Brownleeite is known to crystallize in the isometric system of crystal formation. In optical mineralogy, this isometric crystal system comprises crystals having three axes, all of which are perpendicular to one another and all are found equal in lengths. Brownleeite is found to be not radioactive after chemical evaluations.
