The chemical formula of mineral Blixite is indicated by Pb8O5(OH)2Cl4. Blixite is most commonly found occuring at its type of locality at Langan, Varmland, Sweden, in the Amerika stope. This mineral was named for Ragner Blix (1898-), Chemist, Swedish. Blixite is known to crystallize in the monoclinic system of crystal formation. In optical mineralogy, the monoclinic system of crystal formation comprises crystals having three axes of unequal lengths. Two of which are usually found in a position that is oblique or not perpendicular to one another. However, both of which are commonly found perpendicular to the third axis.

 

            Blixite is usually found showing good cleavage in one direction which can be found more clearly visible when viewed closely with the aid of petrographic polarizing microscopes used in the field of optical mineralogy. Blixite is also most commonly found colored light green, light yellow or orange in hand sample. The specific gravity measure of mineral Blixite is usually found 7.35 grams per cubic centimeters. The hardness measure of Blixite when evaluated using the Mohs scale method is usually found 3. Blixite is also commonly found exhibiting vitreous to dull luster when evaluated in reflected light of polarizing microscopes for mineralogists. Blixite is commonly found leaving a light yellow streak when rubbed on white porcelain streak plate. Blixite is also most commonly found showing biaxial positive figure when evaluated between crossed nicols of petrographic polarizing microscope used in the field of optical mineralogy. It is also commonly found showing 0.1500 birefringence. Blixite is also known to be not radioactive after chemical evaluations.
