The chemical composition of mineral Atencioite is indicated by the formula Ca2Fe++[ ]Mg2Fe++2Be4(PO4)6(OH)4•6H2O. Atencioite is most commonly found occuring in granite pegmatite. This mineral is actually related to mineral roscherite. Mineral Atencioite is actually most commonly found at its type of locality at Linopolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Atencioite was named for Dr. Daniel Atencio, proffesor of mineralogy at the Geoscience Institute of the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Mineral Atencioite is known to crystallize in the triclinic system of crystal formation. In optical mineralogy, this triclinic crystal system commonly comprises crystals having three axes, of which all are unequal in length and are positioned oblique to one another. Atencioite has no cleavage found even if the mineral is closely evaluated with the aid of petrographic polarizing light microscope used in the field of optical mineralogy. Mineral Atencioite is also most commonly found colored greenish brown in hand sample which can be more interesting when viewed under polarized microscope for mineralogists. The specific gravity measure of mineral Atencioite is usually found ranging from 2.84 to 2.86 giving an average of about 2.84 grams per cubic centimeters. Most crystals of mineral Atencioite are found transparent in appearance. Atencioite is also commonly found showing brittle fracture which is generally displayed by glasses and most non-metallic minerals. It can be also found concretionary forming rounded massive fine-grained materials that can be found more fascinating when viewed closely under polarizing light microscope used in the field of optical mineralogy. Sometimes is can be also found spherical in form with crystals occuring as spherical, rounded aggregates when evaluated under polarized microscope for mineralogists. The hardness measure of mineral Atencioite when it is evaluated using the Mohs scale method is usually found 4.5 grams per cubic centimeters. Atencioite is commonly found showing vitreous or glassy luster when viewed in reflected light of polarizing microscope used in the field of optical mineralogy. Mineral Atencioite is actually most commonly found leaving a white streak when rubbed on a white porcelain streak plate. Atencioite is usually found showing biaxial negative figure when evaluated between crcossed nicols of polarizing microscope used in the field of optical mineralogy. It is also commonly found showing 0.0130 birefrigence. Dispersion commonly not observed. Atencioite is a non-radioactive mineral as evalauted.
