The chemical formula of mineral Achavalite is indicated by the formula FeSe. It has been found the same as synthetic delta-Fe7S8 with niccolite structure type. It usually needs additional work. Achavalite is usually found at its type of locality at Cerro de Cacheuta, Mendoza, Argentina. This mineral is named after L. Achaval. Mineral Achaavalite is known to crystallize in the hexagonal system of crystal formation. In optical mineralogy, the hexagonal system of crystallization comprises crystals having four axes. Three of which are positioned in a single plane with equal length and are symmetrically spaced. The fourth axis is found to be perpendicular to the other three axes. Achavalite is most commonly found in gray color that can be seen more fascinating when viewed with the aid of petrographic polarizing light microscopes. The specific gravity measure of mineral Achavalite is usually found 6.53 grams per cubic centimeters. Most Achavalite crystals are found opaque in appearance. The hardness measure of mineral Achavalite when it is evaluated using the Mohs scale method is 2.5. Mineral Achavalite is most commonly found showing metallic luster when viewed in reflected light of polarized microscopes. Achavalite is not radioactive.
